Dynamic Charting for ArcGIS Desktop 10

ESRI’s Applications Prototype Lab released a new version of the dynamic charting tool for ArcGIS Desktop 10. See previous version here.

The tool features a number of improvements:

  • Ability to switch between a pie chart and a column chart,
  • Ability to pick any summary field other than area, for example, cost or mineral volume,
  • Improved performance, the charts are only updated following an editing operation such as an add or delete. Previously updates occurred at regular time intervals.
  • The legend is now sorted alphabetically,
  • And mostly importantly, the user interface colors have been toned down.

To install:
1) Download this contribution to your computer,
2) Unzip the file,
3) Double click on the .esriAddIn file.

To uninstall:
1) In ArcMap, select Customize > AddIn Manager,
2) Select “Dynamic Charting for ArcGIS Desktop”,
3) Click “Delete this AddIn”.

How to use:
1) Start ArcMap,
2) Add a layer,
3) Symbolize with a unique valye renderer,
4) Display the Dynamic Charting toolbar (click View > Toolbars > Dynamic Charting)
5) Click the first (and only button) on the toolbar,
6) Drag and drop the layer to the Dynamic Charting window.

Notes:
1) Charts will update dynamically as you are editing,
2) You can display more than one chart in the window,
3) Works best with small datasets.

The new Dynamic Charting for ArcGIS Desktop 10 can be downloaded from the ArcGIS Resource Center (download link below). The download includes full source code. The tool is developed as a desktop AddIn and is written in C# using WPF and the WPF Toolkit.
