what is raster data and vector data in GIS?

what is meant by their conversion to each other?

Public Comments

  1. Two formats of representing pixel data
  2. Raster data means bitmap images. Vector data means lines and curves, and the bound shapes they can make.
  3. Epidavros is right. Think of vector data as the outline of the continents of a world map. Think of raster data as the topographic model of the earth's surface, there is not "beginning or end", but each point on the surface (raster) has a unique value (elevation).
