what is raster data and vector data in GIS?
what is meant by their conversion to each other?

- Two formats of representing pixel data
- Raster data means bitmap images. Vector data means lines and curves, and the bound shapes they can make.
- Epidavros is right. Think of vector data as the outline of the continents of a world map. Think of raster data as the topographic model of the earth's surface, there is not "beginning or end", but each point on the surface (raster) has a unique value (elevation).
