Google Ocean to Navigate Your Underwater Field

March 6th, 2012 by GIS No comments »

Google Ocean is part of the GE or Google Earth and Google Maps which can be considered as 3D interactive atlas software. The software has functions which are perfect as tools for sharing information about geography especially on the ocean in very easy way. This Google Ocean is a rare method for gathering data about the marine domain that no other software is collecting information like Google Ocean did. It’s one of the Google project releases in order to form showing devices for marine information from all around the world and that will give the users the ability to navigate even under the sea surface. This Google Ocean was launched at 2007 formed by 18 elite members. Most of the members are oceanographers that gathered to form the 3 Dimension map of the ocean.

It’s true that some of the people thought that Google Ocean is the underwater version of the Google Earth. This even getting strength by the thoughts that Earth can’t really be called ‘Earth’ since most of it consists of water, thus the Google Ocean is being made. The form of this ocean data software has the function to help most of the interest in the field of oceanography which will view the weather patterns, changing temperatures and sea behaviour as well. The functions of the Google Ocean will be related with some implementations such as virtual ocean, ocean observatories, navigation for 3D geography and the pilot for coast geography. The ocean observatories will be viewing the visual environment and then the virtual ocean is the application developed by the MGDS or Marine Geo Science Data System.

The Google Ocean or 3D ocean mapping is shaped based on the seafloor gathered by the oceanographers. These basics are shaped in negative depths of altitude in the geographical areas formed by the submarine cables. With the Google Ocean, you can navigate in any depths and corners of the globe. This is due to its relation with the World Ocean Observatory to provide content from the real resources available at its website. This connection has been built since November 2011, and the performance is quite good until now with many hopes in the future.

The features provided by the Google Ocean along with the World Ocean Observatory are including the links to presentations and interviews regarding the Ocean field such as the YouTube, TED conference and many more. There’s also specific information about the ocean regions throughout the globe, short resources and documentaries based on the events happened. The functions of Google Ocean will be helpful for the ocean navigation fields.
